The learned reader will realize that the dates I use on this site are not those used in the traditional chronology of the ancient world. Several volumes have been written explaining the errors contained within the traditional dates established in the nineteenth century by Egyptologists. Since most other ancient civilizations are dated by their ties to Egyptian chronology these are also in error. I will not deal with this issue in detail on this site but the curious student can peruse the works of Immanuel Velikovsky, Peter James et al., David Rohl and especially Jim Reilly.
All of these scholars have developed their own revised chronology and each one differs from the others in the details but all agree that the chronology of the ancient middle east has been telescoped in length due to errors contained in the chronology of ancient Egypt. A comrehensive and unified chronology is possible but needs many people to complete its development. Unfortunately most Egyptologists refuse to even consider the idea or the overwhelming evidence that the traditional scheme is in error.
It is my considered opinion that the Egyptologists today who refuse to consider a revision to the traditional dates are acting in the spirit of those scientists who kept Ptolomy's geocentric model of the universe the accepted model for over one millenium.
One brief example will be given for those who are not aware of the volumes of evidence that the traditional chronology is in error. One of the bases upon which the traditional chronology of Egypt is based is found in the Bible. The First Book of Kings chapter 14 verse 25 states: "And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:" Biblical chronology puts the fifth year of Rehoboam ca 949 BC. In Egyptian history there were a series of pharoahs named Shoshenq. Due to the similarity in name and the fact that Shoshenq I left a record of an excursion into northern Palestine (not mentioning Jerusalem), Egyptologists declared that Shoshenq ruled at the time of Rehoboam and his father Solomon. Current archaeological research has shown that there was no Israelite empire of Solomon in the days of Shoshenq. So what do they conclude? You might think they would question their identification of Shoshenq with Shishak. If you did you would be sadly mistaken. They simply conclude that the historical account as contained in the Bible was simply a story created later. Unfortunately this is typical not an exception.
